A program entitled "2nd International Postgraduate Colloquium in Information Science (IPCIS 2015)" was successfully held at the campus from 16 to 17 February 2015. This colloquium involving 22 delegates from Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU), Nonthaburi, Thailand, was held to bring postgraduate students from STOU and FIM (UiTM) together in sharing their research findings and experiences. The team from STOU was led by Professor Dr. Chutima Sacchanand and she was here with four other staff members and 17 PhD students.
They arrived in Kuala Lumpur on 15 February 2015. The faculty members brought the STOU delegates to Kuala Lumpur for a fun 5-hour long sightseeing trip. On 16 February 9.00 am, our colloquium started with welcoming speeches by our Deputy Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr Mohd Sazili Shahibi, and then by the STOU representative, Professor Dr. Chutima Sacchanand. The colloquium was then officiated by Prof Dr. Sharifah Aishah Syed A. Kadir, Assistant Vice Chancellor, UiTM Puncak Alam Puncak Perdana Campus, at 10.00 am.
PhD students presentations started soon after the opening. There were four concurrent sessions in the morning and afternoon. Presentation titles can be viewed at this link, <IPCIS 2015 Schedule>. The presentations went smoothly in front of a moderator, panels from STOU and FIM, and an audience of about eight to ten people. The sessions ended at 6.00 pm after which all delegates were brought back to the hotel to get ready for IPCIS 2015 dinner at Intekma Resort. The theme of the dinner was Asean Night and we witnessed beautiful cultural performances by STOU delegates and traditional Malay dances by a group of children. On 17 February, several STOU representatives and the management staff of FIM had a short meeting at PTAR Library to discuss further collaborations in the future. For the rest of the delegates, they were brought to UiTM PTAR Library, Arts Gallery and Tun Abdul Razak Gallery for a tour.
After the tour, we proceeded to UiTM Annex Hall for the closing ceremony. There, we witnessed a document handover ceremony to symbolize STOU as the host for the next colloquium in 2017. The event was successful and had given everyone involved a much needed exposure to share ideas and do networking among researchers across borders. We hope that our friends from STOU had a pleasant stay here in Malaysia.
